Commentary on Indian Stamp Act

by Deepak Diwan, Kabir Diwan
Categories: Other Laws
Publisher: Bharat Law House Pvt Ltd
About Book:

The present book is a big departure from the existing publications as now an attempt has been made for the first time to have separate Chapters for each State. This will enormously assist the readers and the legal fraternity in computing the Stamp Duty payable on an instrument regardless of the location of the property or transaction. The Book also deals with tax implications on business restructurings/reorganizations. Further, elaborate case laws dealing with Stamp Duty arising out of family settlements have been incorporated. Apart from the statutory provisions of law enacted by various States, numerous judgments pronounced by the Supreme Court and various High Courts have been clarified and tried to bring lights on the grey areas which required indepth interpretation of the Statutes. An extensive research has also been carried out on the case laws and substantial extracts of the salient features of key judgments have been explicitly detailed.

About Authors:
Deepak Diwan :

Deepak Diwan is an Advocate with over 45 years of practice exclusively in laws governing corporate entities. Over the course of his career he has serviced over 1,000 corporate clients on various company law matters. His client list includes some of the biggest industrial and corporate groups of the country who have been repeatedly using his services for decades. His interest in Stamp Duty matters came about as a result of examining the diverse and often conflicting stamp laws relating to Corporate Restructuring matters. He realised, after spending considerable time on the subject, that there was a need to simplify and collate the stamp duty laws of various states at one place in order to aid readers and professionals alike in navigating through an enormous and often intimidating exercise of computing stamp duty implications in different states.

Kabir Diwan :

Kabir Diwan, after studying Economics and Finance at Rutgers University, USA and at the London School of Economics, UK, joined Ernst & Young, India in their Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) Practice.
