Khurshed Noshir Pastakia graduated from the Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai, and completed his Chartered Accountancy in 1979 while serving with the mid-sized CA firm of M/s P C Hansotia & Co. While continuing to practice as a professional, he also spent a decade in the teaching field with the SNDT University, Mumbai, where he served as a Lecturer and Head of Department of Accountancy, Chairman of the Board of Studies (Accountancy) and Member of the University’s Academic Council. After a short stint with Price Waterhouse, he re-joined P C Hansotia & Co., which in the meanwhile had merged into Deloitte Haskins & Sells. In 1999, he was deputed to work at Deloitte & Touche’s New York Office where he gained skills in the global firm’s proprietary software-based auditing methodology, AS/2. After return from the US, he was made Audit Partner of Deloitte India. Apart from auditing some of Deloitte’s largest and most complex clients, including multinationals reporting under US GAAP and IFRS, he contributed to Deloitte’s Learning Function where, for several years, he was responsible for the nation-wide technical training of the firm’s audit personnel in both accounting and auditing. He also contributed to the firm’s Quality Function as Professional Practice Director for Western India Region and, more recently, the administration of the Engagement Quality Control Review process. Khurshed retired from Deloitte in 2017. He was also involved with the Peer Review Board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India since its formation, and served as an invitee/co-opted member of the Institute’s Auditing and Assurance Standards Board for three terms. During this involvement he edited the 2nd edition of the Institute’s Peer Review Manual, and authored the Implementation Guide to SQC 1 and the Implementation Guide to Reporting Standards. Apart from his professional attainments, Khurshed is a 4th Dan black-belt of the International Judo Federation, was a Continental Referee of the Asian Judo Union, and has served as a coach and manager of the National Judo Team.
