About Course:

Episode Duration:
12 minutes

Episode Background:
With the much-watched US Presidential elections just days away, we are reminded of the time when the former Governor of New York Mario Cuomo said, “you campaign in poetry, but you govern in prose.” A similar oft-quoted adage says that you may speak in English but you first think in your mother tongue. Languages and words are more than simple strings of alphabets; they run deep in the fabric of society defining how ideas are communicated in businesses. When Latin was the language of scholars, stories close to people - like Dante’s Divine Comedy - were written in the vernacular. Not just that, even priests used the language of people to better connect with them. Closer back home, ancient religious/mythological texts like Ramayana were translated in regional languages.

While our education system has been largely anglophile, its curious to note that today there is a shift in recognition of the role that vernacular languages play in building our foundations. There are numerous examples illustrating this trend - right from Google introducing regional language search, mobile companies and service providers providing services in local languages, G-mail including several local language options, to Hollywood dubbing its most famous works in different languages.

Today in most parts of India, District Courts operate in regional languages, businesses are run using local languages and a professional has to also be well versed in the language the his clients understand.

What shall the episode cover?
Keeping this in mind, Taxsutra Atoll is delighted to present to you “GST Bahubali’, a new video series consisting of short, succinct capsules from experts in vernacular languages, that seeks to demystify the maze and complexities surrounding the new tax, that is proving to be anything and everything but simple!
