Psychopath Behaviour - A Need for Therapeutic Approach

by Dr. Priya Sepaha
Categories: Other Laws
Publisher: Thomson Reuters South Asia Private Limited
About Book:

In the words Mahatma Gandhi, "Crime is a disease like any other malady and is a product of the prevalent social system. Therefore, all the crimes including murder will be treated as a disease." And also, "that no one commits crime or fun of it. It is a sign of a diseased mind. The cause of particular disease should be treated and removed." In the present book, the author has endeavoured to highlight that punishing all type of criminals or deviant acts will not serve any purpose. Crime control can be done only by knowing the reason behind the crime and other correlated factors influencing the personality of the offender. Insanity, unsoundness of mind, schizophrenia and psychopathy are terms which are commonly used for mentally ill patients without knowing the correct meaning of these words. That is why when a crime is committed by mentally ill offenders, they are not considered treated separately. Hence this needs a proper explanation. Due to the lack of information and awareness about psychopaths generally, they are considered as monsters not patients. On the country, psychopaths are victims in their own way. The predicament with psychopaths is unawareness of the disease and he consequences. Hence it is necessary to change this mindset, and they should be treated rationally particularly in the light of the research dome in this area in some of the western countries.
