Treatise on Service Tax Law, Practice & Procedure (in 2 Vols.)

by Sunil B Gabhawalla
Categories: GST & Other Indirect Taxes
Publisher: Bharat Law House Pvt Ltd
About Book:

Starting its journey from 3 selective services being taxed @ 5% in 1994, service tax law has travelled a long way towards comprehensive taxation of all services (and in some cases non services as well!) at an effective rate of 15%. The journey has not been an easy one, but definitely a memorable one. Now in the last leg of the journey, before its eventual subsumation into the GST, the extent and direction of changes does perplex the citizen. Be as it may, one phrase aptly summarises the implementation of service tax law – “Handle with Care!”

This Edition of the Book continues to maintain its simplicity and structure. However, more detailed analysis of specific services bearing exemption or reverse charge or valuation rules is provided. This perhaps being the last edition of Service Tax, I hope it will continue to be useful for the professionals for a long time to come, specially for assessments and litigation.
